1. Comparing Concrete, Metal and Plastic Storm Sewer Pipe
This seminar is a comparison of the basic design parameters for concrete storm sewer pipe and its major competitors; metal pipe and high-density polyethylene pipe. This seminar covers the strengths and weaknesses, both physical and chemical, of each different kind of pipe, including the differences in installation techniques and examples of good installations for each. Many engineering firms like to combine this seminar with a tour of a nearby concrete pipe manufacturing facilities. Seminar lasts about one hour; the length of the tour varies.
2. The Hydraulics of Culverts
A presentation of the basics of designing culverts based on the flow characteristics of the structure in comparison to the environmental needs of the installation. This seminar also has examples working with inlet and outlet control. Seminar lasts about one hour.
3. Calculating the Load Above a Buried Pipe (Standard Installation Indirect Design Method)
As design processes turn to software, it is easy to lose sight of the principles that same software is based on. This seminar goes back to the heart of the design process and reviews the methods involved in calculating the load above a buried pipe. We will do some problems so bring your calculators and your blue “Concrete Pipe Design Manuals.”
4. Visual Inspection of Concrete Pipe
This seminar is ideal for engineers and inspectors who are going to spend time on pipe installation job sites or those who are going to video concrete pipe lines. The seminar goes through the proper installation of reinforced concrete pipe, but more importantly covers the problems that can be encountered when installing concrete pipe. About half of the seminar is photos of concrete pipe with cracks. We discuss what caused the crack, whether or not the crack is a problem, and how to fix the problem if there is one.
5. Concrete Pipe Joints
Concrete Pipe joints have long been a subject that needs clarification. This seminar reviews every concrete pipe joint that is available; when they should be specified, how those joints are designed, how they are manufactured and how they should be installed. Additionally, the seminar describes the ASTM specifications for each joint so that the engineers learn not just when, but how the individual joints should be specified.
6. An Introduction to Reinforced Concrete Box
This seminar serves as a basic introduction to Precast Concrete Box Culverts. During the seminar we will look at the history of box culverts and why they were introduced as new products for the drainage market. We will review the design standards and issues concerning installation along with some special design requirements. We will also discuss the advantages of RCB and the innovative ways engineers are using them around the country.
7. Do You Know Your Pipe?
This seminar reviews some of the various piping options available for storm water and sanitary sewer lines and looks into product specific strengths and weaknesses. It addresses key issues including sustainability, flexibility, product life, hydraulic capacity, cost and impact on the environment.
